It's Snowing! and Another Quilt is Soon Finished!

This afternoon we had a quick snow shower that left only a little snow on the ground but was beautiful. I walked outside to get the mail and enjoyed the peacefulness of snow when there is no wind, the temperature is not so cold and it is a little magical. I tried to capture the effect with my camera.

I am nearly finished with this quilt for a shower for little Oscar. I think his mommy checks my blog, so I am only putting a few sneak peeks. She can see the entire quilt at the shower.

Playing with baby

Quilting was put on hold today. I wanted to finish the quilt but I won't work on it until this evening. Little Peyton came to visit grandma and grandpa. She is so cute, she can sit up really well and has cut her first tooth. Here are a few pictures of her and her mommy.

A pretty day for a visit. . . .

The weather man predicted warm weather today. I am anxious for the snow to be gone. We have a few drifts around the house that will take several really warm days to disappear.

Today my sister and I are planning to visit our Uncle Art. He is the only living member of my dad's family still alive. On January 30th he will be 90 years old. He lives alone and is very active for his age. You would expect him to be at least 10 years younger than he is. Maybe more. He lost his wife this past fall and we worry that he may give up also. His children are spending much time with him and he is starting to plan a few trips on the bus tours he'd taken with his wife in the past.

We had such a nice time talking about when he and my dad were kids, our families, current world events and whatever else came up. He served pie and ice cream and I teased, had he been up all night baking. He picked it up at the store. He did brag how he had washed the kitchen floor and cleaned the house, a job his daughter usually does for him.

I tried a new roast recipe today that called for a can of beer, a can of cranberry sauce, some ketchup, a package of dried onion soup and seasoning to taste. I wondered how it would turn out, and it was delicious. It will be one of those thing I plan on making again. We have leftovers tomorrow evening. I can't wait.

All of the kitties are fine. Bruno is full of spirit and needs to be out running with the others, but my husband thinks he is still a baby so he will stay in his pen until spring. The quilt is moving along and I plan a quick baby quilt after this one is done. It warmed a little so I guess spring will come soon. Things are wonderful.

Here's a taste of summer to keep the spirit high.

Quilts

I just finished a baby quilt that my sister is planning to give to my son and daughter-in-law for their baby expected in May. It is a boy, Oscar Andrew, and I will be very busy making a quilt for the little one in the next few months. I enjoyed making this quilt - I quilted around the details of the flowers, bear and bunny as well as the background stitching and the border. I didn't go so quickly though, as I took some time off for Christmas.

My next project is finishing a quilt for a lady in her 80's who has Parkinson's and is not able to hold the needle to finish stitching the quilt. She got around quite well, but her quilting hand just never quit shaking. Her husband saw an ad I put in a local paper early last year to do hand quilting. He cut it out and saved it, and when she agreed she just would not be able to finish he gave me a call. It is a beautiful quilt, all embroidered with lots of quilting included. She quilted it in a pink thread and it made the quilting stand out even more. Her stitches are much longer than mine so I adjusted to resemble hers. I am excited to work on it and get finished as soon as possible as I have several more quilts with deadlines to make. These cold winter days will be spent quilting, daydreaming of my garden next spring.

What a beautiful quilt, see all the stitchwork

New Camera!

My new camera arrived today. I wanted to get a good digital camera for some time and my husband started talking about replacing his old camera with an easy to use digital. He has used my small one for some time so I said take it and I will get the good one. He was satisfied and so was I. I am still reading up on how to use it but I have tried a few pictures and it seems I will love this camera. It is a Canon Rebel Xs. My son has one and loves it and I know the pictures are great. Now I just have to figure everything out and we should see some pretty nifty pictures here.
